Samhain is the Celtic festival on which Halloween was based and marks the end of harvest season and beginning of winter. It is a time to gather around fires to sing songs of light and hope, mustering warmth for the dark months ahead.

I’m hoping for one of those gorgeous clear starry October nights, but if it isn’t we will celebrate Samhain by candlelight in the lovely church hall of Cardross.

I chose Cardross because the train station, the beach and the hall are all within a 5min walk of each other.

We will meet at the hall where we will revisit songs we know and learn some new ones, drink tea and eat cheese scones and cake.

After a 5min walk to the beach, we will celebrate the Samhain night by singing around a fire on the beach.

Bring your sturdy shoes, a folding chair or rug to sit on, a torch, a flask of tea or soup and your woolies!

Meet in hall at 4.30pm

I have purposefully arranged the time and place to suit trains from Glasgow and Helensburgh. There is also plenty of parking for car shares.
